Ortho-Bionomy®
What Is Ortho-Bionomy?

-- Soft touch, deep work, results that last --

Ortho-Bionomy® is a gentle, highly effective and comprehensive system of natural healing that has its roots in Osteopathy and Martial Arts. This deep, gentle work relieves pain and restores natural alignment, function and balance with more ease, immediacy and lasting effectiveness than you might have thought possible, even when other modalities have ceased to be effective. Ortho-Bionomy engages the body's innate self-correcting, self-healing reflexes affecting a release of tension from the inside out and according to the body's ability to change and re-pattern, safely and gently in a way that only the body can do for itself.

Change and well-being come from within.

This unique system uses comfortable positioning, gentle contact and relaxing movements to stimulate your body's innate self-regulating and self-balancing ability to unlock muscular and ligamentous tension and restore natural alignment of the joints. Additionally, Neuro-lymphatic Reflexes help balance and restore function to the endocrine system. This relieves pain, increases flexibility, fluidity and range of motion, speeds recovery from injury and the effects of stress, heightens bodymind awareness, restores structural balance, and promotes well-being. When the body is structurally balanced, your body works better, you think better, you feel better. Ortho-Bionomy goes beyond bodywork and reminds us how to be more at ease in our bodies and in our lives, physically and energetically. The system is now taught and recognized worldwide for its simplicity, gentleness and lasting effectiveness.

Discover for yourself how Ortho-Bionomy can benefit you.

  • Therapists, you can prolong your career by working with ease.

In a session, the practitioner uses movement and positioning that create comfort, as well as energy flow, touch and gentle compression into the joints to activate the body's innate self-correcting reflexes. No forcebul manipulations are used. Natural alignment and balance reemerge, as accumulated stress and tension are released. Your body's self-balancing relfexes are an integral part of the nervous system and your ability to move and adapt to life's changing circumstances. Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle process of neuromuscular re-education that increases physical and personal awareness in the process of restoring balance, working on all levels of body, mind and spirit. Relaxation often continues to deepen after the session ends.

Home exercises may be suggested to further aid in relieving pain and restoring balance and function throughout the body, empowering clients to engage their own self-healing abilities. People speak of experiencing a deep sense of relaxation, a lighter feeling throughout the body and a release from mental chatter. Those with chronic pain (including Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain) are often amazed at how easily their tension melts, muscles soften and pain dissipates.

Ortho-Bionomy means "the correct application (ortho) of the natural or scientific laws of (nomy) life (bio)." The system includes techniques that work with physical and energetic reflexes, postural re-education, self-care and neurolymphatic reflexes that rebalance the endocrine system. Techniques combine extremely well with other modalities and classes may be taken individually. There is a complete 500-hour professional Practitioner Training Program for those who want to learn the complete system and a 520-hour Senior Practitioner Program.

Arthur Lincoln Pauls, D.O.(England), was a Judo Instructor for ten years before studying Osteopathy. He was searching for a way of correcting injuries and imbalances that worked with the body's natural healing ability and the natural laws of movement and structure. While training in Osteopathy he was introduced to the concept of comfortably positioning the body in a way that eases the tension and discomfort associated with structural lesions and pain. He experimented with the concept for many years. In time, he developed a complete system of techniques, or ways of working with the body, that activate the natural healing reflexes using, not only position, but movement, balance, energetic or proprioceptive balancing and more. (See Description of Workshops.) From his understanding and integration of the principles of movement and health through structural alignment, arose Ortho-Bionomy. For nearly three decades he taught Ortho-Bionomy in the US, Europe and Australia. He spent his later years in Southern France, working and teaching right up to his death in 1997.

Study Ortho-Bionomy. No previous training is required to take a workshop or begin a training program. Many clients enroll in the Self-Care workshop to help themselves at home in between appointments, or take other classes to learn how natural healing works and to help friends and family. Others take classes as a refreshing complement to their 9 to 5 "day job" to make a career change. Bodyworkers, including many Massage Therapists take classes for continuing education and to get better results with less effort, often prolonging their career.

There is an Associate Training, a Registered Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner Training Program as well as Instructor Training in Ortho-Bionomy®. Each program builds on understandings gained in the previous program and the training is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the principles and philosophy of Ortho-Bionomy with extensive hands-on training and experience in workshops and supervised clinical practice.
